  • Greg and RowinGreg visited Holland! On Saturday, September 17, we visited the tourist site of Zaanse Schans and Amsterdam. We decided to go by train, because that would be the easiest way to get to the Dutch capital. Zaanse Schans is only twenty minutes away from Amsterdam. Happily, the trains were quieter than the days before! The days before we were packed like sardines sitting in a small corner of a much too crowded train. This Saturday, travelling was much easier. Greg goes DutchGreg climbing a millZaanse Schans is about ten minutes walking from the train station. It’s a site with windmills and old houses. Every day it attracts a lot of tourists. We decided to climb one of the mills. From the mills you have a great view on the site. The upper floors are a bit harder to reach. You have to climb some steep wooden stairs. No problem for us, of course ;-) Zaanse Schans is also nice for taking some great pictures. Or to check what’s inside the houses.
Knock on your doorIt was quite cold this Saturday and it had started to drizzle. We decided to go to Amsterdam. The train would leave in five minutes, so Greg suggested to sprint to the train station. That’s what we did. What took us ten minutes earlier, took us now five minutes. Just in time we managed to get the train to Amsterdam. At least we had had some cardio now. But Greg hadn’t eaten since breakfast, so we really needed to get some food. First we had to travel for twenty minutes to Amsterdam.

Greg and Rowin in AmsterdamIn the afternoon we got to Amsterdam. First thing we did was having lunch. We had some nice rice and veggies at Bijenkorf. Bijenkorf is Amsterdam’s most famous department store. After lunch, the hunt for two things started: find Greg a nice winter jacket and see some sights. The sights we saw: Dam, Red Light District, Flower Market, Museum Square, Rijksmuseum, Skinny Bridge etc. And the nice jacket? Not really. Greg tried about 15. Some too big, some too small, but no perfect ones. Better luck next time…
Greg and RowinGreg and Rowin's jacketWhat Greg did find was souvenirs for his brother and his daughter. The hunt was successful! The weather wasn’t. It started to poor! We decided to go to Apeldoorn and have dinner there. I was happy to have a small umbrella with me. Way too small for two people. Half wet we reached the station. Back in Apeldoorn I decided Greg should have my jacket on. His arms were full of goose bumps. I didn’t want him to get sick. First he didn't want to,
Greg's cheat dessertbecause he was afraid he would be too big to get in. But he was so happy when he managed to get it on!
That night we had dinner at a wok restaurant. Greg was as happy as a kid in a chocolate store! “All we can eat??” He must have been starving after a whole day of running, walking and little eating. Greg had a cheat dessert! He had ice and cake and other bad stuff… At least he enjoyed it! And we had a great end of this nice day in Holland! Merci, Greg!
